Since the announcement of Covid-19 in Kenya, and like the rest of the world, the government moved swiftly in an effort to contain the spread of the virus and evade possible mass deaths.

Among the containment measures, besides emphasis on improved sanitation and sanitizing, others included a ban on public gatherings, enforcement of dusk to dawn curfews, wearing of masks, halt of local and international air transport and above all cessation of movement on selected counties.

Every 21 days, eager Kenyans keenly listened to the president's speeh on what further steps the government had taken on the issue given the economic crumble and the rise of social ills.

Today, at Harambee House, the much anticipated state address came and the president gave people a reason to smile and worry at the same time.

Below is a summary of the speech:

1. PRESIDENT UHURU Kenyatta lifts cessation of movement into and out of Nairobi Metropolitan Area, and counties of Mombasa and Mandera from Tuesday, 7th July 2020 at 4.00am.

2. The 9pm to 4.00am curfew still in place for a further 30 days.

3. PRESIDENT Kenyatta warns should the Covid-19 situation worsens due to the easing of measures as announced, country will revert to the lockdown situation.

4. Phased reopening of places of worship under strict guidelines and health protocols including;
- Attendance not to exceed 100 persons and last only one hour.
- Sunday schools and Madrassa to remain closed
- Congregants should be above 13-years old and below 58-years-old.
- Those with underlying health conditions not to attend

5. LOCAL TRANSPORT to resume on July 15, while international travel resumes on August 1 in strict compliance with guidelines, President Kenyatta announces.

6. BAN ON social and political gatherings extended for another 30 days.

7. UHURU DIRECTS National Crime Research Centre to probe escalating gender-based violence, dis-empowerment of girls and violation of rights of children.

These measures will see a return to almost normal life before corona life, and while this might be for the good of the economy and the people who were unquestionably broke and uneasy, the question that lingers is whether the government is ready for the surge in corona cases brought about by a mass urban rural migration.

We all don't know what happens next.

Stay safe. Do not put your life or that of others at risk.
