The draw for the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final were made from UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland on Friday.


It is highly likely that Cristiano Ronaldo’s Juventus (who were beaten 1 – 0 at Lyon) could face his former team Real Madrid (beaten by Manchester City in the round of 16) in the Champions League quarter-finals as the draw for the rest of the tournament was made on Friday.


Meanwhile, RB Leipzig will play Atletico Madrid after both teams knocked out Premier League opposition in the last 16.


Some other potentially huge clashes expected later on in the tournament include the potential of Madrid facing Barcelona in an El-Clasico semi-final, with Pep Guardiola also potentially up against one of his former sides in Barcelona or Bayern if Manchester City side makes it through to the final.


Champions League quarter-final draw:

  • QF1: Real Madrid or Manchester City vs Lyon or Juventus
  • QF2: RB Leipzig vs Atletico Madrid
  • QF3: Napoli or Barcelona vs Chelsea or Bayern Munich
  • QF4: Atalanta vs Paris Saint-Germain

Champions League semi-final draw:

  • SF1: Winner QF1 vs Winner QF3
  • SF2: Winner QF2 vs Winner QF4

VENUES & DATES

The quarter-finals, semi-finals and final will all be played as a straight one-leg knockout tournament in Lisbon throughout August with games split between Benfica’s Estadio do Sport Lisboa e Benfica and Sporting CP's Estadio Jose Alvalade.


The remaining last-16 second leg ties will be concluded over August 7-8, before the quarter-finals are played over four days in Portugal, beginning August 12. The semi-finals will take place on August 18-19, with the final at Benfica’s stadium on August 23.


Atalanta, Atletico, Leipzig and PSG are all already qualified for the quarter-finals having knocked out Valencia, Liverpool, Tottenham and Borussia Dortmund respectively.


UEFA confirmed on Thursday that the remaining last-16 second leg matches will be played at home grounds as previously scheduled.


EUROPA LEAGUE

In the Europa League, Manchester United will face either Istanbul Basaksehir or FC Copenhagen in the quarter-finals of the Europa League, as they hold a commanding 5-0 lead over LASK in their last-16 encounter.


Serie A giants Inter are facing up to a meeting with Rangers or Bayer Leverkusen if they overcome Getafe. The Italian outfit are yet to take in the first leg of their last-16 clash, with Sevilla and Roma also having both legs at that stage to play out.


Basel is another team set to progress after beating Eintracht Frankfurt 3-0 in their initial clash.


With competitive football having been forced to shut down in mid-March, and with the coronavirus pandemic still impacting sporting events around the world, the final stages of the Europa League will be held in one region in an effort to avoid issues regarding travel and testing.

  • Wolfsburg/Shakhtar Donetsk vs Eintracht Frankfurt/FC Basel
  • LASK/Manchester United vs Istanbul Basaksehir/FC Copenhagen
  • Inter/Getafe vs Rangers/Bayer Leverkusen
  • Olympiacos/Wolves vs Sevilla/Roma

Europa League semi-final draw:

  • Winner of quarter-final 4 vs winner of quarter-final 2
  • Winner of quarter-final 3 vs winner of quarter-final 1

VENUES & DATES

The 2019-20 mini-tournament will be played in venues across four cities in Germany: Gelsenkirchen, Duisburg, Dusseldorf and Cologne between August 10 and 21.


The stadiums that will be used are Koln's RheinEnergieStadion, Duisburg's MSV-Arena, Fortuna Dusseldorf's Merkur Spiel-Arena and Schalke's Arena AufSchalke. It could be that there is a German derby to be taken in, with Wolfsburg seeing a potential meeting with Bundesliga rivals Eintracht Frankfurt placed in their path.


Elsewhere, Wolves, who are enjoying another impressive season in the Premier League under Nuno Espirito Santo, will be hoping to edge out Greek giants Olympiacos and line up another heavyweight tie with either record UEFA Cup/Europa League winners Sevilla or Roma.


The quarter-finals will then be held on August 10/11, with the semi-finals happening the following week on August 16/17.


The final will take place at the RheinEnergieStadion in Cologne on August 21.
