The president of the Republic of Kenya, H.E Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta, in consultation with the various stakeholders dealing with the Covid-19 menace and the Security Council has announced closure of the Kenya-Tanzania and the Kenya-Somalia border for 30 days.

President Uhuru Kenyatta, after announcing 49 new coronavirus cases in Kenya, said that he wished he could open up the economy but noted that countries that tried to do that experienced huge new infections.

The president further reiterated that only cargo vehicles will be allowed across the borders and was categorical that only drivers that test negative of coronavirus shall be allowed into the country.

The order takes effect starting the midnight of 16th May, 2020.

On the same note, he has announced an extension of the 7pm to 5am curfew and a cessation of movement into and out of the earlier announced counties of Nairobi, Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi and Mandera until 6th June, 2020.

The president thanked Kenyans for helping the country and themselves in the fight against the Covid -19 virus.
